Research

Dr. Alessandro Coclite research interests are mainly devoted to the numerical modelling bioinspired
problems such as: i) fluid-structure interaction of micro- and nano-particle transport as drug carriers
against cancer or cardiovascular diseases; ii) diffusion of therapeutics into the blood-brain barrier; iii)
local and non-local effects in comprehensive constitutive equations for biological tissues; iv) detailed
modeling of blood borne cells. These investigations are carried out by means of an hybrid
computational model, combining a Lattice Boltzmann and Immersed Boundary Methods developed for
predicting the dynamics of rigid and deformable adhesive micro-carriers navigating a capillary with
physiological hematocrit. Moreover recently, Dr. Coclite invested his efforts also in the computational
modeling of internal combustion engines starting from the fluid dynamics and complex fluid-structure
interaction to the optimization of the combustion processes.
