Biography

Guido Maione graduated with honors in Electronic Engineering with a grade of 110/110 in 1992 from the Polytechnic University of Bari. He has been a member of the Order of Engineers of the Province of Bari since 1993. He served in the Navy as a reserve officer (April 1993 - July 1994). In 1997, he obtained a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Bari.
In 1996, he won a comparative evaluation procedure for a research position in SSD ING-INF/04 "Systems and Control Engineering" at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Salento (then University of Lecce). On December 31, 2002, he transferred to the Second Faculty of Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Bari in Taranto. He is currently affiliated with the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Bari, where he has been an Associate Professor since May 2019.
He was a Visiting Scholar at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY, USA) in 1997 and 1998. In addition, in 2007, 2009, and 2013, he visited Queen's University Belfast (UK) for short research periods.
He has taught about 60 institutional courses for first, second, and third-level degree programs and several short courses abroad. He has been the leader and manager of exchange projects between the Polytechnic University of Bari and partner countries in the Erasmus+ program. He is currently the Erasmus Delegate for the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering. He is currently a member of the Faculty Board of the Doctorate in Electrical and Information Engineering.
He has participated in many European, national, and regional research projects involving academic partners, industries, and private companies.
His scientific interests have focused on the theory and applications of automatic control in many fields: non-integer (fractional) order systems and controllers; machine learning for predictive maintenance; detection and identification of faults and anomalies; machine learning for precision agriculture and the food industry; modeling, optimization, and control of injection systems in common rail diesel engines and compressed natural gas engines; control of electric drives; critical systems and collective motions; industrial automation, automated production systems; intermodal maritime container terminals and logistics systems; complex networked systems and multi-agent systems; discrete event dynamic systems, Petri nets, directed graphs.
He is Associate Editor of the journals Nonlinear Engineering, Transactions of the Institute of Measurement and Control, and Frontiers in Control Engineering, Control and Automation Systems. He is the author or co-author of one book and approximately 190 publications in journals, book chapters, and international and national conference proceedings.
Maione has been a member of the IEEE since 1996 (Student Member: 1996; Member: 1997-2016; Senior Member: 2016-present); IEEE Control Systems Society since 1996; IFAC; SIDRA, the Italian Society of Teachers and Researchers in Systems and Control Engineering, since 1993.
