Biography

Paolo R. Massenio received his master's degree with honors and his PhD in control engineering from the Polytechnic University of Bari, Italy, in 2017 and 2021, respectively.

He was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Texas at Arlington (USA) in 2019–2020. In 2023, he was a Mercator Fellow of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) at Saarland University in Saarbrücken, Germany. Since 2022, he has been a researcher in Systems and Control Engineering the Polytechnic University of Bari, where he also coordinates several European and national projects.

His research focuses on the control of devices based on smart materials, soft robotics, distributed control of microgrids, and reinforcement learning-based algorithms.

Dr. Massenio received awards for best paper from the IEEE Power and Energy Society in 2021 and 2022. He is currently Associate Editor for the journal Control Engineering Practice and a member of the Conference Editorial Board of the IEEE Control Systems Society.
