Biography

Prof. Sergio Bruno obtained his Master's Degree and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Bari in 2000 and 2004, respectively. He is an Associate Professor at the Polytechnic University of Bari, where he currently teaches "Automation of Electrical Systems" and "Quality of Electrical Service" for the Master's Degree course in Electrical Engineering.
His research activities have focused mainly on electrical power systems, with particular attention to the dynamics of electrical systems, safety and control of electrical systems, and their operation. His main research topics include: Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS), advanced protection schemes, wide-area measurements and control, smart distribution systems, advanced SCADA/DMS systems, smart grids and microgrids, distributed energy resources, multi-vector energy systems, network services, Power Hardware-in-the-Loop testing, and geographically distributed real-time simulation.
He has been involved in numerous research and development projects in the field of smart grids and energy systems, in collaboration with network operators, research centers, and universities. He coordinates the operational activities of the LabZERO laboratory at the Polytechnic University of Bari. More recently, he has also coordinated the activities of the Polytechnic University of Bari on behalf of EnSiEL for the creation of the national laboratory for geographically distributed real-time co-simulation (ENET RT-Lab).

Chair of the IEEE Italy Power and Energy Society (PE31) Chapter.
IEEE Senior Member.
Associate Editor for IEEE IAS Publications (IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications and IEEE Industry Applications Magazine).
