Biografia

Vito Puliafito is Full Professor of Electrotechnics at the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering of the Politecnico di Bari, a position he has held since October 2024. He also serves as Rector’s Delegate for the Internationalization of Education for the six-year term 2025–2031.

He received his degree in Electronic Engineering in 2007 and his PhD in Electromagnetic Modeling in 2011 from the University of Messina. During his doctoral studies, he was a visiting PhD student at the University of Salamanca and, in the following years, a visiting researcher at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul and at FORTH Hellas in Crete. After serving as Assistant Professor at the University of Messina from 2019 to 2021, he joined the Politecnico di Bari in 2021 as Associate Professor, and was promoted to Full Professor in 2024. He also served as Department Delegate for Student Orientation from October 2021 to November 2025.

His research activity focuses on the modeling of magnetic materials at the nanoscale, with particular emphasis on spintronic applications, micromagnetics, and novel computing paradigms. He has authored more than 50 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and is regularly invited to speak at international conferences. He also serves as reviewer for journals of major scientific publishers, including IEEE, IOP, AIP, and Nature, and is Associate Editor of IEEE Nanotechnology Magazine.

He is actively involved in the international scientific community also through the organization of major events. In particular, he served as Chair of the international conference Trends in Magnetism 2022, held in Venice, and as Director of the IEEE Magnetics Summer School 2023, held in Carovigno-Bari. In 2025, he served as General Chair of the IEEE Conference on Advances in Magnetics (Bressanone) and as Program Chair of the IEEE Conference on Nanotechnology (Washington DC).
He has been an IEEE member since 2009 and a Senior Member since 2024. Within the IEEE Magnetics Society, he has been Chair of the Italy Chapter since 2023 and Chair of the IEEE Young Professionals Affinity Group since 2025. He is a member of the Italian Association of Magnetism, where he served on the Board of Directors from 2021 to 2024. He is also co-founder and member of the Technical Committee on Quantum, Neuromorphic and Unconventional Computing of the IEEE Nanotechnology Council, and Vice President of the Petaspin Association.
